The inaugural World Archery Weekend, hosted by Andover Archers, has proved to be a resounding success! Rookie tournament organisers, Chris Newman and Abbie Loader, were naturally apprehensive but their concerns were unwarranted with a smooth and efficiently run tournament at their very first attempt. Great credit and thanks should go to mentors Reg Press and Julian Piper for their guidance!

Massive thanks must go to Gentleman Patron Les MacPherson of Quicks Archery and to Quicks themselves for their generous sponsorship of the event. Special thanks also to “Choices Hire” of Andover who provided much of the catering equipment free of charge and to Sue Jones at the “EWE and I Tearooms” at Weyhill who donated all of the tasty rolls for the burgers and bacon butties free of charge!

Conditions on Saturday were tricky to say the least but on Sunday the sun shone and the winds died away. Full results have been posted on the website and also on various Facebook groups. Congratulations to all the trophy and medal winners with a special mention to 13 year old Louisa Piper of Woking who on Saturday, not only won the senior Ladies Recurve but posted a score that would have achieved second place in the Gents Recurve category! Awesome performance.

Thanks to everyone who entered and to the work parties and catering teams who made the weekend so enjoyable. We are already looking ahead to next year and would be delighted to see you all back again for another fantastic tournament!
