The August Bank Holiday weekend has proved to be a memorable one for Andover Archers!
On Sunday, a number of our members took part in the DWAA Championships at Devizes where they encountered some of the worst conditions imaginable with torrential rain almost obscuring the targets! This did not seem to prove too much of a hardship with Gold Medals being won by Abbie Loader, Vicky Loader, Sophie Meyrick, Saskia Meyrick and Aliyah Ramirez! What is more, the scores achieved by Vicky, Saskia and Aliyah were all new Hampshire County Records! Yet again, awesome shooting by our juniors!
On Monday, Chris Newman, Abbie Loader, Simon Smith and Vicky Loader travelled to Oxford to take part in the inaugural Mixed Pairs Team Competition. Chris and Abbie both ranked in 8th place in the individual Gents and Ladies recurve rounds and as a pair, they ranked in 7th place. Simon and Vicky ranked in 14th and 13th place individually in the compound competition with a ranking of 13th in the pairs.
Sadly, both of our pairs fell at the first hurdle in the afternoon knockout rounds but they will all benefit from competing against really top class opposition and will be back next year to try again!
